What a great Summer!

Wow! It’s already time for the holidays. The summer has been awesome and I have had some amazing experiences working with some of the greatest people.

I was very fortunate to work with clients on their special days. Weddings are some of my favorite events to be a part of. I have also had the opportunity to be a part of other events, providing arrangements and bouquets to some very special people, participate in local markets, collaborate with local artists and continue the growth of my business.

Summer 2014 Schedule

Well, things are picking up around here at Azalea which is great news!

Unfortunately, it does cause some conflicts with some of the farmers markets that I was participating in on a regular basis. But don’t worry!

This doesn’t mean that I won’t be able to participate at upcoming local framers markets anymore, it just means that I will have more limited appearances at them. I still plan on getting out to several of them throughout the summer and I will keep you updated on those as I define them. Follow me on Facebook/Twitter for latest updates.

You can still always order those same floral and plant products that I offered at the markets directly and set up pick-up or delivery. Just call or email me.

I will also continue to have product at The Denver Urban Homesteaders Farmers Market for sale, such as small plants and my bargain fresh-cut floral bouquets!

I apologize for any inconvenience and I’ll definitely miss the great interactions that I experienced every Saturday and hope to have more in the future.

Caring for succulents

Caring for succulents is fairly a low-maintenance task. Although they usually grow in dry arid climates like deserts, they do like their moisture.

What you need:

  • Fresh Water
  • Weekly/Seasonal monitoring
  • Balanced fertilizer during grow season

The growing season for most succulents and cacti is from spring to fall. During this time, they should be watered generously so their soil is wet and even draining out of the container. You can also provide a balanced fertilizer (equal parts of Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium) during their grow season as well to add a some extra nutrients for their consumption.

During the cooler seasons, you should extend the water period to about 1.5 to 2 weeks or when the soil is almost completely dry.

Caring for air plants

Air plants, or Tellandsia, are fairly low maintenance plants and are easy to care for. In the wild, they typically grow on other plants or trees and even on rocks and non-soil surfaces. We use them in a variety of our decorative pieces and they practically grow almost anywhere!

Everyone has their own techniques and climate/location play a big roll in what works well or not. The following is an approach that I use and have recommended and has worked very well.

What you need:

  • Small container like a ramekin
  • Fresh water
  • Time tracking device (clock, timer, etc.)
  • And of course the plant

Fill a small container, like a ramekin, with about .5″ of water for small-medium plants and about 1″ for larger ones.

Take the plant and set the bottom root area into a small container for about 2 hours. Do this about once a week for best results in Colorado climate.

That’s it! Place the plant back into its container and keep an eye on the moisture during the next week.

If you have any tips, please feel free to share them in the comments below.

Denver Urban Homesteaders Farmers Market

UPDATE: June 20, 2014

My summer business schedule is picking up with some of the other services that I offer and unfortunately this may conflict with my availability at the farmers market. My presence at the Denver Urban Homesteaders Farmer’s Market will be limited right now, but I will continue to have product available there including my bargain fresh-cut floral bouquets. So, in the meantime I will post updates on my upcoming appearances on future blog posts and social media (Facebook/Twitter). You can always contact me directly if you need anything!

I’ll have a booth set up at the Denver Urban Homesteaders Farmers Market on most Saturdays from 9:00a to 3:00p. The market is a unique setting which takes place indoors at a historic warehouse in the Santa Fe arts district near 2nd and Santa Fe.

You’re always welcomed to come down and visit me, purchase any of my latest creations or even discuss future orders and needs. I usually have fresh-cut flowers and small bouquets available, airplanes, succulents, small plants and other decorative items at very reasonable prices.
